THE OVERVIEW EFFECT

From the Author: Outer space holds many mysteries, and I am as curious about the universe as the next person. But I wonder: what will we really gain by spending so much time and fortune in journeying into outer space? While I do not believe that the answer to the problems here on Earth will ever be solved by traveling to other planets, there has been one unexpected side effect from this human desire to reach out to the heavens. And its similarity to experiences like those occasioned by holotropic breathwork and psilocybin journeys is marked.
